The overarching goal of our research is to understand human episodic memory. Various cognitive models have been developed to provide theoretical explanations of how episodic memory works. In general, these theoretical explanations conflict with each other and there is an ongoing debate as to which model provides the most parsimonious explanation. We employ techniques from experimental psychology to test the predictions of these cognitive models.
Specifically, we investigate how associations formed and used in episodic memory, the causes of interference in memory, how various memory models can differentially predict various findings and can be developed, as well as the role of context in memory by using vast array of recognition and recall tasks. Consequently, these lines of research constrain models of memory and propel theoretical research of episodic memory.
